Summary
The MIRECC Outpatient Consultation Service is designed to assist mental health providers in assessing and treating veterans with suicidal ideation and suicide-related behaviors. The MIRECC consultation team assigns a clinician to work with the referring clinician to clarify clinical questions and concerns. Requests include assistance with establishing diagnoses, understanding and managing personality disorders as they relate to suicide risk, review and further development of treatment plans, as well as assistance in understanding and managing transference and countertransference dynamics. The consultation includes a comprehensive review of the patient's record, a clinical interview and appropriate neuropsychological/psychological testing, MIRECC team review, and concludes with a feedback session for the referring clinician. At the request of the clinician, a feedback session will be conducted with both the veteran and the clinician. Members of the MIRECC Consultation Service participate in the weekly outpatient team meetings, providing education and clinical consultation concerning individual case discussions. Team members also consult in Morbidity and Mortality Reviews (M&Ms), Complex Case Reviews (CCRCs) and serve on the hospital Suicide Aggregate Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
Consultations may be requested through the CPRS Consult Order menu/ Mental Health Menu. For additional assistance or questions you may contact Pamela Staves at 303-399-8020 ext 2557 or by e-mail at pamela.staves@va.gov .
