Biography: Dr. Britton completed his PhD in clinical psychology at the University of Arkansas. He completed his APA-accredited pre doctoral internship at the University of Rochester Medical Center School of Medicine and Dentistry (URMC) and was a National Research Services Award (NRSA) Postdoctoral Fellow (T32 MH20061; Conwell, PI) in the Center for the Study and Prevention of Suicide (CSPS) at the URMC. Upon completion of his postdoctoral fellowship, Dr. Britton joined the Center of Excellence for Suicide Prevention as a clinical researcher.

Research Interests: Dr. Britton’s research focuses on understanding risk and protective factors for suicide, suicide attempts, and unintentional overdoses in high-risk populations, and the development and evaluation of preventive interventions. To date, his research has emphasized identifying risk and protective factors for short and long-term risk in Veterans and individuals with substance use disorders, developing clinical approaches to prevention such as Motivational Interviewing to Address Suicidal Ideation (MI-SI), and examining influences on National Veterans Crisis Line (NVCL) call outcomes. He has received funding as a principal investigator from VA CSR&D and QUERI, and as a co-investigator from VA HSR&D and NIDA.
