About Waco

Central Texas has one of the highest concentrations of returning Veterans in the country, with a current total of over 35,000 unique OEF/OIF/OND veterans registered in the system. By following a large number of Veterans from the current conflict over a long period of time, VISN 17 CoE contributes to the Department of Veterans Affairs' and to the nation's understanding of the mental health risk of combat exposure in Veterans and the potential effects of these conditions on Veterans' families.

Waco is a beautiful, growing metropolis situated in the heart of central Texas, just between Austin and Dallas. Waco is home to three colleges, numerous museums, a farmers market, live music venues, and great shopping.  In addition, the city boasts one of the of the biggest and best municipal parks in Texas, Cameron Park.
