Bio: Dr. Appelt is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Psychiatric Epidemiology Training Program in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh. She obtained her PhD in Sociology from the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Appelt conducts her research in the Mental Illness Research, Education and Clinical Center (MIRECC) at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System under the direction of her primary research mentor, Gretchen L. Haas, PhD.
Research Interests: Currently, Dr. Appelt’s work is focused on enhancing patient involvement in hypertension control in persons with schizophrenia. Her longer-term research goals include improving outcomes for other chronic medical conditions that commonly occur in individuals with severe mental illnesses.
