Biography

Biography: Dr. Lisa Kearney is the Associate Director of Education at the VA Center for Integrated Healthcare. She previously served nationally as part of the executive team in the Office of Mental Health Operations as their Senior Consultant for Technical Assistance. In this position, she served as the office’s subject matter expert in integrated care, monitoring implementation of primary care-mental health integration and providing trainings for integrated care and patient centered medical home implementation in collaboration with an interprofessional team of subject matter experts. At the local level, Dr. Kearney served as the Chief of Psychology, Assistant Chief, Director of Training, and Director of Primary Care-Mental Health Integration at the South Texas Veterans Health Care System. During her time at South Texas, she led Primary Care-Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) implementation across the health care system, developed a postdoctoral training program in integrated primary care, co-led with the Associate Chiefs of Primary Care and Pharmacy the development of interprofessional programs for vascular risk reduction and diabetes management, and served as the VISN 17 PCMHI lead, consulting with other facilities as they established PCMHI at their sites of care. Her primary professional, research, and clinical interests are focused in the areas of integrated care, particularly in implementation of primary care-mental health integration, measurement-based integrated care, mental health productivity and access, and training and mentoring of mental health professionals. She serves as a co-chair of the VHA National Mental Health Facility Leadership Mentoring Program and is on faculty with the VHA National Behavioral Health Leadership Training program. Dr. Kearney is an active member of the American Psychological Association (APA, Divisions 17, 18 (fellow), 35, 38 (fellow), & 51), serving on the Board of Professional Affairs, as an Associate Editor for APA Division 18’s Psychological Services, and as an Editor for APA Division 51’s journal, Psychology of Men and Masculinity. Dr. Kearney was the 2015 recipient of the APA Division 18 Peter J.N. Linnerooth National Service Award and received an APA Presidential Citation in 2016 for her work in integrated care in the VA. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and fellow and past president of the Bexar County Psychological Association. She is a member of several APA and VHA national workgroups related to integrated care. She is a proud graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology and is board certified in clinical health psychology.
