Biography

Biography: Dr. Vair is a clinical research psychologist with the VISN 2 Center for Integrated Healthcare (CIH) at the VA Western New York Healthcare System in Buffalo, NY. Prior to her role as an investigator, Dr. Vair completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship with the VA Advanced Fellowship Progam in Mental Illness Research and Treatment (MIRECC). She also completed an American Psychological Association accredited pre-doctoral psychology internship at the VA Western New York Healthcare System. Dr. Vair earned both her MA and PhD in clinical psychology with curricular emphasis in Aging from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs.

Research Interests: Believing passionately in a person-centered, holistic approach to care, Dr. Vair’s research interests are in exploring mental health concerns of the aging population within the primary care (PC) medical setting. She has collaborated on several projects within PC, including examining the effectiveness of a novel case-finding approach for aiding dementia detection and developing a measure of PC behavioral health provider fidelity. She is also currently acting as project director on a grant-funded focus group study designed to identify gaps and ways to improve care for veterans with dementia in PC. She currently has a number of other research collaborations underway, among which are investigations into the course of clinical care for Veterans with dementia referred for driving evaluation and developing a chart review tool to explore assessment of dementia in primary care.
