The VA Mid-Atlantic MIRECC trains psychologists, psychiatrists, neuropsychologists, health services researchers, and clinical scientists committed to improving post-deployment mental health care for Veterans.

Fellows engage in a structured two-year training experience that balances intensive research development with advanced clinical practice in post-deployment mental health.

The majority of fellowship time is devoted to mentored research activities, including project development, data analysis, manuscript preparation, and grant writing.

Fellows engage in advanced clinical training in post-deployment mental health, building expertise in evidence-based assessment and treatment with Veteran populations.

A multidisciplinary VA training environment

Fellows join an active academic and clinical community with access to investigators, clinicians, datasets, laboratories, implementation projects, and VA-wide professional development opportunities.

Fellowship opportunities

All fellowship programs are two years in length. Fellows work within a multidisciplinary environment that integrates research mentorship, clinical training, and professional development across VA medical centers in North Carolina and Virginia.

Advanced Fellowship in Mental Illness Research & Treatment

VA Mid-Atlantic MIRECC sites in Durham, Salisbury, and Richmond offer advanced fellowships that include two years of research and clinical training in high priority post-deployment mental health areas.
