Ilse R. Wiechers, M.D., M.P.P., M.H.S.
Dr. Ilse Wiechers is Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Yale University School of Medicine and Associate Director of the Northeast Program Evaluation Center in the Office of Mental Health Operations (OMHO) of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. She is the National Program Director for the Psychotropic Drug Safety Initiative, a VA nation-wide psychopharmacology quality improvement program that aims to ensure the safe and effective use of psychopharmacologic treatments. Her research is focused on psychotropic and mental health service utilization in older adults. Dr. Wiechers provides clinical care to older Veterans in the VA Connecticut West Haven VA Medical Center Integrated Primary Care Clinic, specializing in late-life mood, anxiety and trauma-related disorders. She is involved in training medical students, residents, and fellows at the Yale University School of Medicine and lectures extensively on geriatric psychopharmacology, quality improvement, and health policy. Dr. Wiechers earned her Master of Public Policy and Doctorate of Medicine from Duke University, completed her residency training in Psychiatry at MGH/McLean Hospitals, and completed her Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship and Master of Health Science degree at Yale University. She is an alumna of the VA Advanced Fellowship Program in Mental Illness Research and Treatment, the Yale RWJF/VA Clinical Scholars Program, and the John A. Hartford Foundation's Center of Excellence in Geriatric Medicine and Geriatric Psychiatry Training Program.
