Health Services

Examining how mental health care is delivered, accessed, and experienced by Veterans — with a focus on improving care quality, reducing disparities, and implementing evidence-based treatments into real-world practice.
About this community
The Health Services Community of Research (CoR) brings together investigators with expertise in health policy, implementation science, clinical psychology, and Veteran-centered care to study how mental health services reach and benefit those who have served.
Our research examines barriers and facilitators to care access, evaluates the real-world effectiveness of evidence-based treatments, and develops and tests strategies to close the gap between what the science supports and what Veterans receive in clinical practice. We place particular emphasis on developing and testing the real-world effectiveness of innovative interventions that increase the reach of mental health services.
The Health Services CoR collaborates closely with the Durham HSR&D Center of Innovation to Accelerate Discovery and Practice Transformation (ADAPT) and other VA Centers of Excellence to ensure our findings translate into meaningful improvements in how care is organized, delivered, and experienced by Veterans.
