Your body can go through withdrawal when it does not get the nicotine it is used to. Reducing the amount you smoke before you quit gets your body used to lower levels of nicotine. This might lessen your signs of withdrawal.
Nicotine withdrawal signs:
- Cravings for cigarettes or tobacco
- Irritability
- Trouble sleeping
- Increased appetite
- Fatigue
- Constipation, gas, or stomach pain
- Dry mouth; sore throat, gums, or tongue
- Headaches
If you are still having cravings you can't control - even after using coping strategies and nicotine replacement therapy - contact your primary care provider (PCP). Your medication dosage may need to be adjusted.
