Advancing the science of recovery and rehabilitation for Veterans living with the effects of traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation, and other service-related conditions — to improve function, independence, and quality of life.

About this community

The Rehabilitation Community of Research (CoR) brings together investigators who study recovery, functional restoration, and adaptation following neurological injury and other service-related physical and mental health conditions in Veterans.

Our research spans the full spectrum of rehabilitation science — from understanding the mechanisms of recovery to developing and testing interventions that improve real-world functioning. We partner closely with specialized clinical programs at the Richmond VA Medical Center, one of the most comprehensively resourced VA rehabilitation sites in the nation.

The Richmond VA hosts a Polytrauma Rehabilitation Center (PRC), a Spinal Cord Injury and Disorders (SCI/D) regional center, a VA Amputation System of Care (ASoC) regional center, a VA Headache Center of Excellence, and the Long-Term Impact of Military-Relevant Brain Injury Consortium and Chronic Effects of Neurotrauma Consortium (LIMBIC-CENC) — providing a uniquely rich environment for rehabilitation research with and for Veterans.
