Grant Writing Scholars 2024

In February, the 2024 class of SC MIRECC Grant Writing Scholars (GWS) participated in a virtual grant writing workshop. The GWS program provides investigators with individual mentoring and didactic training in successful grant writing. The program prepares scholars for submitting grants to funding agencies such as SC MIRECC, VA Health Services Research and Development (HSR&D), and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Dr. Michael Cucciare, the SC MIRECC Associate Director for Research Training, directs the GWS program. Drs. Ellen Fischer and Natalie Hundt led the workshop. Members of the 2024 GWS class are:

  • Mara Ferrie, PhD
  • Haley Kolp, PhD
  • Megan McArthur, PsyD
  • Mackenzie Shanahan, PhD
  • Alan Sheinfil, PhD
  • Juinell Williams, PhD
  • Alanna Woolsey, DHSC, LCSW-S, CCM, CCTP, CTMH.

  • The program was extremely helpful in providing useful recommendations and actionable strategies for developing grant proposals.
  • I think this will help prepare me for future pilot, career development, and merit awards. It was helpful to gain an understanding of specifics related to various aspects of grant writing.
  • Everyone involved was willing to share knowledge openly and in understandable terms.

After the workshop, scholars further refined their proposals, which will be submitted to various funding agencies.
