Phone Applications
Phone Applications: Recovery Coach and Mood Tools
The VISN 22 MIRECC is developing two phone applications. The first is an illness self-management app for schizophrenia (Recovery Coach), and the second is an illness self-management app for bipolar disorder (Mood Tools). These applications will provide education about the illness, including written and audio content addressing basic facts about the illness, symptoms, and treatment (medications and psychosocial interventions). The phone applications use principles of illness self-management and help individuals with these disorders track mental health symptoms, warning signs of relapse, and medication use. The apps include an individualized relapse prevention plan so individuals can address symptoms before they become disruptive and problematic. Contact information for various resources will be available. The applications will also provide individuals coping techniques and exercises that can be used when experiencing symptoms.
