About Evidence-Based Case Conceptualization and Treatment Planning for Complex Presentations: A Quick Guide

This guide will help clinicians better understand and plan treatments to address co-occurring mental health conditions. Clinicians will learn how to use measurement-based care during case conceptualization and treatment planning. They will learn to take a flexible, Veteran-centered approach to planning care over time. The guide:

  • Provides an overview of case conceptualization for complex presentations, including core concepts and definitions, clinical complexity and comorbidity, case conceptualization, and tips.
  • Discusses measurement-based care (MBC) in case conceptualization, including examples, MBC as a transdiagnostic tool, MBC quick reference, and tips.
  • Covers treatment planning for comorbid presentations, including clinical practice guidelines (CPGs), basic steps to treatment planning for psychiatric comorbidities, shared decision making for initial treatment planning, and tips.
