Elizabeth Ralevski, Ph.D.

Dr. Elizabeth Ralevski received her Ph.D. in Psychology in 2000 from York University in Toronto, Canada. She completed her post-doctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School and joined the faculty at Yale University in 2001. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Yale University School of Medicine and the Project Director for the Substance Abuse Treatment Program at VA Connecticut Healthcare System, West Haven Campus. Her research interests include the search for novel treatments for individuals with dual diagnosis of alcoholism and other psychiatric conditions, including depression, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), schizophrenia, or borderline personality disorder. Her current research in this area involves examining: (a) mecamylamine for the treatment of individuals with alcohol dependence; (b) prazosin for the treatment of individuals with alcohol dependence and PTSD; and (c) modified version of cognitive processing therapy (E-CPT-C) to treat individuals with alcohol dependence and PTSD. Dr. Ralevski’s other research examines factors, such as stress, that may lead to the development and maintenance of alcoholism and other mental disorders. In this line of research, Dr. Ralevski is currently conducting a study that examines stress as a marker for relapse to alcohol in individuals with alcohol dependence and PTSD. She is also interested in the combined effects of alcohol and nicotine on cognition and behavior in smokers and non-smokers. In a current project, Dr. Ralevski will be examining the combined effects of these substances in smokers.
