Sonya Gabrielian, MD, MPH
Dr. Gabrielian received her undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley, her MPH from UCLA, and her MD from the UC San Diego School of Medicine. She completed psychiatry residency training at UCLA, followed by a health services research fellowship with the Desert Pacific Mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical Center (MIRECC). She joined the faculty at UCLA and the VA Greater Los Angeles in 2013. Her research focuses on implementation approaches to improve housing, health, and community functioning for homeless-experienced adults with serious mental illness. Dr. Gabrielian is the Corresponding PI of Housing Transitions QUERI, which implements and evaluates an evidence-based case management practice in community-based agencies that serve homeless-experienced Veterans; and a multiple PI of The Leading Evaluations to Advance VA’s Response to National Priorities (LEARN) Evidence-Based Policy Evaluation Center, also funded by QUERI.
She is the VA Research Director of the VA/UCLA Center of Excellence for Veteran Resilience and Recovery; Co-lead of the High-Risk/High-Need Research Focus Area at the VA HSR&D Los Angeles Center of Innovation (COIN); and Director of the Health Services Implementations Unit at the Desert Pacific MIRECC. She is also an Affiliated Researcher at the National Center on Homelessness among Veterans (NCHAV) and an Associate Professor in the UCLA Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Gabrielian is also a practicing psychiatrist in VA Greater Los Angeles’ homeless program.
