Teaching Cases and Educational Resources

Our Education core fosters the development of new educational materials and innovative pedagogical approaches for the presentation and delivery of complex basic science concepts in a clinically integrated yet simplified instructional format. We strive to employ the latest developments in medical pedagogies and instructional technology in our teaching deliverables.

Brief Teaching Cases
: Applying textbook-derived knowledge of functional anatomy to clinical practice is quite challenging for most learners. Educational research strongly supports the use of guided experiences - in which an expert explicitly draws the learner’s attention to key connections - to generate active (functional) knowledge based on context than in irrelevant concepts. We applied the neuroscience of learning and cognitions to enhance our educational practices. This approach helps the learner establish connections between foundational science disciplines such as anatomy, neurosciences, and clinical care. This paradigm deepens the clinician’s interest in the individual aspects of each patient, and enhances their appreciation of the wholistic well-being in the context of pathology, treatment and prognosis.

Case 1: Amnestic Disorder and Depression due to Cerebral Aneurysm and TBI
Case 2: Traumatic Brain Injury, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and Headache
Case 3: Anger and Irritability Six Years After Blast Injury
Case 4: Multiple Blast-Related Brain Injuries with Co-Morbidities

Educational Materials: Clinical and research findings relevant to functional anatomy of the brain have been synthesized and summarized into graphic rich original teaching materials. These contents include pictorial diagrams and depictions, which carry important, allowing large volumes of relevant information to be delivered mindfully keeping a suitable balance between our teaching deliverables and the cognitive load.
